Clocks

I really like clocks

This clock can tell the time from 24 different time zones. By using the joystick, you can rotate the location wheel (left) and select a time zone by lining it up in the display window. Once selected, the time wheel (right) will rotate to show the time in that area and update every 15 minutes to show the live time.

Time Zone Display Clock

I first made a template of all physical components and laser cut and engraved wood and acrylic to make the base and wheels. After assembling, I used an Arduino, joystick module, stepper motors, stepper motor driver modules, and a PCF8523 Real Time Clock chip to keep track of time whether the clock is plugged in or not. I coded, soldered the wires to a PCB board, and tested the final clock.

How I Made it

Made of used clock and watch parts, sewn to fabric with embroidery and sewing thread and backed with wood.

Time Keeps sTicking

Sunflower Dial

The sunflower seeds tell the hour and minute. The petals of the flower rotate with passing time, making the flower look different each minute of a 12-hour cycle. Inspired by Van Gogh's sunflowers. Made of wood, acrylic paint, plastic sheets, and a clock mechanism.

Lunar Movement

There is no hour hand on this clock—the moon tells the hour by rotating around the sun. The minute and second hands are inside the sun. Made of wood, acrylic paint, plastic sheets, and a clock mechanism.

Turtle Clock

Made from a slice of wood, acrylic paint, watercolor, charcoal, and cork board. The tail is a pendulum!

Moon Clock

This moon glows in the dark! It's made from a deconstructed glow-in-the-dark frisbee, acrylic paint, and a previously broken clock.
